New!  FALL 2011

"L'art, mes enfants, c'est d'être absolument soi-même."

Art, my children, is to be entirely oneself.

Paul Verlaine

introducing

Let’s Talk About It

Prerequisite

  • French in the City members

  • French in the City advanced level

Limited to 6 students per class

Course Description

We have ups, and we have downs.

Married or single. Children or none. Successful or not.

Let's talk about it. In French.

Using a non-native language to express feelings is more raw, more instinctive and not covered by a wide range of words that can mask a truth. Therefore it can be more cathartic. It’s another way to look at oneself.

Happiness has unique meaning in France. To enjoy life one must touch most of it lightly. One must seduce it...

This class is for those who speak advanced French but want to take their skill to the next level. Master the art of French conversation eloquently using idioms and "second degré". "Second degré" is a much loved French technique where what is said is not always what is meant. You must catch the secondary, more subtle meaning, then reply with a soupcon of humor and wit.

So, let's also laugh about it. In French.
